GREEN ALERT!

Did you know this green space may be lost forever?

The Department of Lands has decided to sell this land for development in April unless
Sydney City Council agrees to acquire it.

The Forest Lodge and Glebe community believes the City of Sydney Council should acquire it.

Why?

- Residential density in Forest Lodge has increased dramatically. 23 family-size homes have been constructed in the past 5 years. Selling this land to developers will add MORE dwellings and impact on our environment. Parking and traffic problems in Alfred Rd and surrounding streets will increase and mature native trees will be lost.

- The land is already a park-like environment with 11 large native trees.
This is a significant part of the area’s tree canopy, attracting birdlife and improving environmental health. The land could easily be adapted to public use with changes to existing fences.

- Council has an Urban Tree Management Policy which aims for an improvement in the city tree canopy, currently only about 10%. A 30% tree canopy is needed for environmental sustainability.

- Council has collected significant funds from recent developments. These could be used to purchase the land as they are supposedly designated for the provision of public open space and recreation facilities.

- The Glebe Society, FRROGS and the Glebe Chamber of Commerce support increased public open space in the area.
